The moment one commits oneself, it is indeed true that Providence moves, too!
I have set aside the month of May to take stock of my current situation in life and design a way forward. I know where I would like to be in 5 years’ time, but until now, the path to get there was shrouded in a dense fog.
I received a post yesterday, from a Permaculture Practitioner in the USA. It was one of those informative adverts, ending in a plug for an online PDC course.
Now, don’t get me wrong, here. I do want to do a Permaculture Design Certificate course, as the qualification would open many doors for me, and doing it online means that I can design and work my own piece of land and get started with what needs to be done, BUT paying $1800 is a bit above my budget at the moment. I would rather put that amount towards a deposit on a piece of land.
Geoff Lawton also offers an online PDC, but his course for 2021 has already started, and – while more comprehensive – is just as expensive.
In the end, I found an online course run by Tom and Zaia Kendall, an Australian couple with many years of practical experience in permaculture. The best part is that the course is run on a pay-as-you-can system, which means that I can spend exactly what I would have spent on a locally-run (South African) course while getting a really comprehensive education. Yes, I’ll probably donate more over time as well. I’m funny that way.
The course that I have booked runs from the 18th of October to the 28th of November 2021. It’s going to be a really interesting ride, putting everything that I have learnt from reading and watching snippets on YouTube into perspective and shaping it into a concept and a system that I can implement wherever I may be.
The irony is that Permaculture practitioners who are suitably qualified are in increasing demand in the corporate world. Frankly, that is not where I see myself. Ever. Unless I can work from my farmstead in the platteland.
