What’s happening in my life this October?
Well…
My mom gave me a fur coat. (No, PETA people, not a real, literal fur coat, although I won’t mind wearing one when I’m really cold – so sue me!) Her name is Кішка and she’s 6 weeks old, give or take. Her favorite sleeping spot is in the crook of my elbow or in my neck.
The problem is that October in South Africa is late spring/early summer, and we’ve already had our first heat wave of the season. And cats – with their double layer of hair – wear fur coats, too! So… Needless to say, the kitty has a new sleeping spot, whether she likes it or not!
The older cat living here has no time for the little impostor, but Vetkat (Fat Cat) will just have to get over herself and realize that her hissing and growling will not make much of a difference to whether the little one stays here or not. It has been decided.
The other thing about October, besides the heat and the wind still air, is that it hasn’t rained yet, so dust and pollen are everywhere. I take an antihistamine with all my other pills in the morning. At least I don’t sneeze my way through the day!
I am in the Southern Hemisphere for those of my readers who follow the Pagan traditions and seasons, so the Sabbaths are also inverted. The 31st of October will therefore be Beltane Eve. While I am not Pagan by any definition myself, I like to follow the tradition of Spring Cleaning. It will be difficult if it hasn’t rained – it kind of defeats the purpose with the aforementioned dust! – but hopefully, we’ll experience some rain before then, so that I can properly clean my small apartment.
The bad news is that my two-month-long vacation is now finally at an end and I have been back at work for a week, already. Bluntly, I hate it already and am thinking up ways to escape. My boss doesn’t know it yet. I have no intention of telling him.
Other news is that I am preparing for NaNoWriMo 2022. I am not going to set a massive target this year, but I do want to get a novel out of it—something more modern, maybe, and more action than heat. I’ll see how and where I shall set it. Maybe some of my Ukrainian friends can help with the details. The last thing I want is to be laughed at because I read a map wrong! I just hope they have time to help me at all! It’s a busy time in Ukraine at the moment. Winter is coming…
I have sent requests out for price estimates for the Expedition Vehicle Build Project. It’s going to be neither cheap nor easy, no matter how I look at it! Normally, I would have sat in a bundle and cried, but this time Despair can go and pound sand, or whatever negative emotions do.
If you want to contribute some loose change to the EV build or other projects that I am running, please do so here. It will really be appreciated
